Who Am I?

Others call me by my name

What if I change my name?

I am the same with a different name

Who am I?

My colleagues and LinkedIn connections

knew me by my position

I changed my position,

but I am the same

Who am I?

My parents call me their son

and my sisters, their brother

My wife calls me her husband

and my daughters, their father

My friends call me their friend

Who am I?

I behold beauty with my eyes

and fragrance with my nose

My ears bless me with melodies

while my tongue savours delicacies

I sweat in summer and shiver in winter

My senses are the gateway to the world,

but I am not them

Who am I?

I breathe my breath, but I am not the breath

My legs take me to the shelf

and my hands pick up the book,

but I am neither of them

My heart sustains my body,

but I am not my body

Who am I?

Love makes me happy

While anger makes me angry

Success gives me joy

While failure makes me sad

I feel emotions but I am not the emotion

Who am I?

I think of my past glories and future worries

I travel the cosmos within me

With closed eyes, I witness my thoughts,

but I am not my thoughts

Who am I?

Each night in deep slumber I lose my mind,

yet I find the same me in the dawn

I am not my mind

Who am I?

That Thou Art.
